Google Calendar Sync: Syncing Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook

Files under Software Reviews | Posted by firyarn84

Have anyone ever heard of Google Calendar? Wouldn’t it be great to be able to keep track of all the events in your life, coordinate schedules with friends and colleagues, not to mention even your beloved ones, and find new things to do — all with one online calendar? The best thing about Google Calendar is that it is online. I personally am impressed with how Google has given this application a very “it’s not a web page, it’s a program” sort of feel.

Just recently, Google released Google Calendar Sync, completely addressing the automatic sync between Outlook and Google Calendar. This will allow you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar. You’ll be able to determine the direction of information flow, as well as the sync frequency. However please bear in mind that it’s not possible to sync events on secondary calendars at this time yet. Google Calendar Sync will only allow sync events from your primary Google Calendar and your default Microsoft Outlook calendar.

Here’s step by step guide on how to install and configure Google Calendar Sync:

1. First download Google Calendar Sync and install it. To install all you have to do is follow the step by step on-screen instructions carefully.

2. After installation is complete, the Google Calendar Sync Settings window will appear:

3. Enter your Google Apps account id and password (the same with your calendar account id).

4. Choose whether you want 2-way sync, Outlook to Google only, or Google to Outlook only.

5. Then enter the frequency in minutes of how often you want to synchronize your calendars.

6. And last but not least click the Save button.

Another important thing you should always bear in mind is that 10 minutes is the minimum time interval allowed. Google Calendar Sync will stay in your Windows System Tray, and automatically sync your calendar on the already predetermined sync time interval.

To access the Google Calendar Sync Settings window, just right-click on the calendar icon in your Windows System Tray and select “Options” or just simply double click on it.
